The Lake District

Sail, walk and relax in The Lake District

Welcome to The Lake District dot eu, the site dedicated to the stunning Lake District of northern England. The Lakes and Cumbrian fells make up one of the most picturesque parts of the British Isles, with leisure and sporting holiday options aplenty, and the various Lakeland waters and peaks justify the area's long-standing popularity with sailors, walkers, families, youth groups, mountaineering clubs and boating enthusiasts alike. You can wander around the villages, take a boat trip on Lake Windermere, hike up Scafell Pike, have a fun filled family holiday, get away from it all, do just whatever you want and relax in The Lakes.

Driving to the Lakes? The Lake District sits in the northern part of North West England and, whilst it is well served by train and bus links, many visitors will access the area by road - via the A6 or Junctions 36 to 38 of the M6 motorway. Regular local buses and trains allow the holidaymaker or resident to ditch the car and explore the towns and villages without the hassles of driving around, dealing with congestion or finding a parking spot. The area has plenty of Holiday Accommodation and the terrain is a combination of alluring peaks and scenic lakes, making it an ideal choice for your British 'staycation'. Hotels, cottages and static caravans to rent can often work out cheaper than a holiday apartment abroad and even with high fuel bills and road congestion, the overall journey will probably cost less and be shorter in duration than flying to the Med or Canaries. No currency exchange fees, no passport queues and plenty of money-saving self-catering possibilities! Campsites are, in the main, very reasonably priced with good amenities for visitors bringing their own tents or touring caravans. Some of the larger camping grounds even have their own onsite restaurants, bars and entertainment. What of the weather? The old phrase that "there's no such thing as bad weather - just bad clothing" may sound a tad smug to any parents trying to entertain their children on a rainy afternoon but it's advice that really should be remembered when you visit The Lakes. This is England and downpours in July are no freak exception. The hills are green for a reason and a little preparation and a variety of clothes will ensure that you have a great time no matter what the sky has in store. Any Lake District lover will know the images of fog bound summits and rain bouncing on the waters just as well as their memories of sunny afternoons, the still and tranquil surface of a lake, relaxing outside a welcoming pub or a well deserved ice-cream in one of the beautiful local villages.
